Here’s a recent brand board for some physiotherapy branding we did. Keep Moving Physiotherapy is a business just starting in the UK. The owner Michelle is a highly experienced physio who has specialised in physiotherapy after a stroke. Her great business needs a highly identifiable logo and a strong professional feel. We developed the physiotherapy logo with her and created the branding to work with it. All gets presented in a branding board which helps a business to keep their branding consistent.

Physiotherapy branding logo

We experimented with lots of different logo ideas but stuck to this simple stylised figurine as they are highly associated with physiotherapy services. Sometimes it’s worth having a logo which is very different, but we agreed with Michelle that in healthcare it is worth sticking to the established association. The figure lines and posture of the figurine are very important to get right since the logo needs to convey health and vitality to customers. Blues dominate in the logo and branding as it is a highly professional colour, and is strongly associated with healthcare fields.

We took the exact colour of the dark blue used in this logo directly from the NHS Physio uniform – a colour all customers will strongly associate with the care they’ve already received.

Logo variations

Circle, square and monochrome logo variations are important when using your logo in day-to-day life. Most social media sites require a square or circular logo so a landscape logo just won’t look good. A logo needs to work in just one colour too. A simple monochrome logo can be used for watermarks, on dark backgrounds, for printing products or for embroidery.

Physiotherapy Branding Brand Board

Fonts, Colours and Patterns

A logo does not complete all businesses branding needs. Your literature, your website, your social media accounts and your business interior design needs to tie together. That’s why a branding board can be so important to a business owner. In our brand boards we specify colours, fonts and patterns that work together with your logo to give the sort of look and feel your business needs to succeed in its area.

For the Keep Moving Physiotherapy branding we created a custom pattern consisting of waves of blue and light. We also teamed it with a marble texture and a simple ombré.

Website Colour Schemes

So you’re starting a new website, a new company, or a new brand. You need website colour schemes that work for the web, are professional and look great. Here is Kestrel Design’s easy step-by-step tutorial on how to make a colour scheme.

The basics

This first step for creating website colour schemes is easy. Choose white for your background and combinations of grey and black for your text. There are lots of reasons why you should choose this monochromatic scheme for your main colours. We like this article’s explanation of some of those reasons: Psychology of Black and White and What They Mean for Your Business. Black or grey text on white is easy to read, traditional, and professional looking.

Black
White
Grey #7A7A7A

Add your brand colour

Next, add your main brand colour(s). Kestrel Design suggests adding at least two – choose a lighter or darker version of your main brand colour if necessary. In the colour scheme below you can see we have added two shades of teal-blue.

If you don’t yet have a brand colour then why not find a colour using this online colour picker tool. The hex code is the code starting with an ‘#’ sign.

Black
White
Grey #7A7A7A
Teal 2 #84B8B4 (Main brand colour)
Teal 1 #B8E0DE (Main brand colour, lightened)

Add an accent colour or two

Finally, take the complimentary colour from your brand colour. To find the complimentary colour, pick the colour which is opposite to your brand colour from the colour wheel. So the opposite of a blue colour will be orange, the opposite of a red will be green etc. Feel free to move left or right a little to find a colour that feels good to you.

Color Wheel - how to make website colour schemes

In our scheme, that accent colour is orange, and because our teal is quite a muted blue, we have selected a brighter orange to create a highlight. This accent will only be used in very small amounts.

For a second accent, we have chosen a colour that is near to our accent colour on the colour wheel – in this instance a yellow. Again, this colour will only be used in tiny amounts so feel free to make it a bright colour.

Black
White
Grey #7A7A7A
Teal 2 #84B8B4 (Main brand colour)
Teal 1 #B8E0DE (Main brand colour, lightened)
Orange #FA8925 (Opposite colour)
Yellow #F2DEA0 (Opposite colour’s neighbour)

Using your Scheme

Set your background to white, then make your text grey and black. Try grey for paragraphs and black for headings. Make links, highlight backgrounds and banners your main scheme colours. Finally, add small pops of your accent colours – try using them highlighted text, bold text and call to action buttons.

Having a colour scheme designed for you

Kestrel Design will design a colour scheme as part of your branding, but we can also design a colour scheme for you from scratch or based on your current company logo or branding. Please get in touch with us using the form on the homepage, via Facebook or by emailing kim@kestreldesign.co.uk.

Personal Trainer Branding

A good friend Anna is setting up her Personal Training Business – Anna Katherine Personal Training. Her vibe is youthful, fresh and modern. She’s going to be combining life coaching so this is incorporated with the ‘fitness, wellness, and happiness’ tagline. You can see Anna on Instagram – her @annakatherinept profile is well worth a follow for it’s inspirational quote posts and photos of Anna’s CrossFit adventures and fit, happy lifestyle.

Personal Trainer Branding Deliverables

Kestrel Design provided Anna Katherine PT with her logo, logo variations, and tag-logos to use specifically on her social media. We also put together some patterns and provided her with the files so that she could make up custom branded social media posts for promotion and inspirational quotes.

Anna needed business cards, client folders and simple stationary so we put all that together in files ready to send to her chosen printers. All the files were correctly sized and in the preferred file formats. That’s lots of headaches taken care of!

Anna had already started to put together a website, but we happily helped to custom-code a new header image to tie her website to her new branding. We incorporated this into her chosen premium WordPress theme by creating a simple add-on theme which we uploaded and initiated for her.

Personal Trainer Branding Board

We also put together a brand board which you can see below. This board gives Anna all the starting points her company needs. Fonts, colours, patterns to use and inspiration images to keep her brand-minded. Feel free to pin this image for your own inspiration and remember to look up Anna Katherine Personal Training.

Branding

Branding, or Identity, is the main way a company shows itself to its customers and potential customers. If branding is not taken seriously, start-ups are much more likely to fail. If established companies do not take care to present a unified image, they are much more likely to be left behind in their field. Very few customers won’t care about the look and feel of a company, but the vast majority will. Branding can make your company look high-end, look good value, look friendly, look professional, look exclusive, look established and much more.

Pilates Studio, Seattle

Union Pilates approached us to take their existing logo, make a few small changes to it, then produce designs for unified business cards, postcards, and stickers. They wanted a gentle, clean look that displayed simple photographs and showed the range of their logo variations. Their business cards come in different formats and in horizontal and portrait styles. The little stickers can be used to remind their customers to keep good posture outside their classes and thus it keeps their brand in mind.

Branding Design

We loved Union Pilates’ logo – the main text is made up of a soft customised font combined with easy to read subtext. The colour scheme combines crisp white, sea-foam green and a darker blue-green. Crisp clear images of the studio itself show the studio’s beautiful facilities, which are also crisp, clean, simple and very elegant.

Branding for your company

Kestrel Design is happy to work remotely with businesses (whether start-up or established) from all over the world. We also offer interest-free payments so that businesses can afford their branding – we know how difficult cash-flow is for entrepreneurs and want to help great businesses become greater. Please get in touch via the contact form on our homepage, or email mail@kestreldesign.co.uk.

During this week we’ve posted three infographics to show social media workflows to build a strong presence – for daily general use, to promote a new product, and to promote a new video. This post is a quick round up to link to all three.

Free Social Media Workflows

Workflow for maintaining your social media presence: 1st of 3
Workflow for marketing a new product: 2nd of 3
Workflow for marketing a new video: 3rd of 3

The social media workflows are based on having a newsletter which can automate welcome messages based on where the sign up occurred so that free giveaways can be tailored to new subscribers. Kestrel Design recommends TweetDeck to manage your twitter account(s) so that you can easily track mentions, messages and notifications. Multiple accounts on Facebook and Instagram are easily managed via the native apps or Facebook’s website.

The social media workflows also assume you have a blog to post your content, new products and new videos to. A blog post is useful even if your videos and products are elsewhere on the Internet as it provides a focus for your links, a place to encourage new subscribers and a holding area for associated content such as PDF downloads. You can set up your website to handle membership levels to offer content only to paying members if you wish.

So integrate together your blog, newsletter, product pages, video site (such as youTube), twitter, facebook, pinterest, instagram and more by following the social media workflows to create a strong brand and an integrated, cohesive presence.

New Product Workflow

We’ve created a set of 3 infographics to show how to maintain a social media strategy as an individual, small brand or small company. This second one is how to build a solid marketing strategy around a new product. It concentrates on enticing a customer with a freebie that is related to the product. Here the workflow can help you in two ways – entice the customer to purchase the ‘full’ version of the freebie, and it also gains new subscribers for your mailing list.

Blender for Graphic Designers and Packaging Designers – discount link

Kestrel Design helped to film, edit and produce this course aimed at showing graphic designers and packaging designers the amazing world of Blender.

Blender is a free, open source software that is so powerful that it can actually be quite tricky to learn to use.

Our course removes the complexities of blender and teaches only the parts that are relevant to a designer to create 3D photorealistic renders that can be shown to clients. Watch as clients see their products come to life!

The link above gives a video explained, more information and an automatic discount so please click through to view the course introduction page.

Our company is having a little change over due to Kim Debling leaving for maternity. She is expected to return early November this year. We wish her luck with her first child!

company handover

Kestrel Design has secured the help of Izzie Kirkpatrick, who will be taking over all the website accounts until at least Kim’s return. Izzie will be doing any maintenance work, plus completing the newer websites under our care.

Izzie is proficient at 3d modelling, WordPress, HTML, xHTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PL/SQL, C#, C++ and a host of other languages. She is also very quickly learning other skills that will help her make complex changes such as WordPress back-end theme & plugin creation.

She’s been introduced and trained in all the software and programs that Kestrel uses to create our unique, elegant and customer-winning websites. This, of course, means that her work will always be responsive, accessible, mobile-friendly and Search Engine Optimised, plus she is able to produce websites containing complex additions such as shops, forums, and advanced forms.

Izzie has also shown a remarkable natural talent for aesthetics and graphic design, creating some gorgeous website mockups for us to appraise her talents. We hope to add examples of her work to the company portfolios soon.

We’ve connected with other graphic designers to be able to continue to provide non-website services – please, therefore, continue to get in touch with us via the form on the Kestrel Design homepage for all your design work.
